DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide originally isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood during slow-wave sleep. Research has identified multiple biological activities beyond sleep induction, including modulation of the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis, stress response attenuation, and neuroendocrine regulation. Preclinical studies show DSIP reduces ACTH and corticosterone responses to stress, suggesting anxiolytic and adaptogenic properties. Research also indicates interactions with opiate systems and potential analgesic effects. Studies have explored its role in circadian rhythm entrainment, antioxidant activity, and tumor growth modulation in animal models.
